Citizen Science
Learning about citizen science has definitely made my hikes more interesting. It's a great way to learn how to identify species and biodiversity in different habitats around you. The great thing about citizen science is that you can do it whenever you want! A few examples include:

Naturalist

-
Can be used as a website or an app
-
Take a picture of an animals or plant, identify it and post!
-
If you don't know what species you've found, you can also categorize it under a more general category and INaturalist observers will help you identify it!
-
Just by doing those three simple tasks, you are helping local scientists gather data about the organisms within your area.

Help us identify as many Canadian species as we can!

Merlin

-
Identify bird species by answering simple questions regarding their appearance or upload photos
-
Created by Cornell Lab

eBird

-
Similar to INaturalists but specifically for birds

Zooniverse

If you're stuck at home, there are many other alternatives to take part in citizen science. You can help identify animals through motion sensing cameras in other parts of the world! Again, no prior experience is needed, all you have to do is use your eyes and try to identify them as best as you can.
